  1. There is no party system to articulate and aggregate societal interests.
  2. The party system is unstable with shallow roots in society: high fragmentation, high voter volatility, and high polarization.
  3. The party system is fairly stable and socially rooted: moderate fragmentation, moderate voter volatility, and moderate polarization.
  4. The party system is stable and socially rooted: it is able to articulate and aggregate societal interest with low fragmentation, low voter volatility and low polarization.
